We’ve all experienced line management that was ... poor; it can leave you feeling disengaged, demotivated, and frankly annoyed. We never want to be that manager, but don’t worry! This course will give you the fundamentals to make a tangible impact with your people.  It’s designed for anyone stepping into a line management role or those looking to build the essential skills to become a great manager.

The design of this programme is intended to be cutting edge learning design, with inclusion lead learning. This means we will be continually pushing the boundaries of the learning experience to give you the best results, whilst catering to the diverse needs of our learners. We purposefully haven't over packed the days so that each topic is done deeply. We want everyone to walk away with truly transformational behaviours.

**Day 1
**

Welcome 

To kick off the day, we will be connecting with our learners, understanding their needs and objectives, and setting the environment so everyone can get the best out of the session. 

Initiating Exercise

We'll begin the learning with an exercise that brings to life the key elements of management in a dynamic and experiential way - don't worry, nothing humiliating or on the spot! 

What is management?

For the rest of the morning, we will then dive in to what do we mean by management. What does it mean to us, to the generally working world, and what is stopping us being our best. 

Creating the relationship

Throughout the afternoon of day 1, we will explore how to set the line manager and line report relationship up for success. We'll be exploring starting a values based relationship, adult-to-adult mindset, contracting, and initiating career conversations. 

**Day 2
**

Welcome back

We'll welcome everyone back for day 2 with a check in and a reconnect on workstyle to kick off the day. 

Driving performance

Over the course of day 2's morning, we will explore getting the best out of our people, exploring key tools to do this such as feedback, and situational leadership. 

Breakthrough conversations

The afternoon of day 2 is all about those conversations that elevate a relationship because they address the challenges. We will get lots of chance to practice and have live feedback from the facilitators. 

Looking forward 

As we move to close the session, we will explore how to embed the learning going forward in a meaningful way for all attendees. We'll then end with commitments of actions. 

Strong line management is crucial for employee engagement and retention, and this course will give you the fundamentals to make a tangible impact. 

Line Management Essentials 

The way we show up at work is just as important as the actual work we do. How we engage in meetings, how we present information, how we show the best of ourselves… all of these skills are critical in literally any role. We want to help you be brilliant at that. We’ll give you super practical, tangible tips and tricks that you can start using tomorrow to help you in this space. We’ll draw on the expertise of actors and their preparation techniques to help you enhance your authentic impact and show up in the way you want to every day.

Opening exercise

An energising exercise to get into the learning space and set the tone for the session.

Impactful content

For the first module of the day, we will explore how to shape your content so it is most impactful, particularly focusing on using storytelling to bring your information to life.

Impactful you

We will then go into how we can better use our voice and body when seeking to have impact; if your content and the delivery don’t align, your message can get lost. Here we will draw on skills from this stage – don’t worry, not to become performers! Just to build our toolkit.

Impactful anywhere

For the last part of the day, we’ll look at how to make an impact in any place, any time. We will bring real world situations into the room and you’ll get a chance to practice being impactful even if you haven’t prepared for it.

The Compelling Communicator 

It’s easy to just give someone a solution when they have a challenge, but if we always do that we’re in danger of creating a dependent workforce who don’t think for themselves. Coaching is all about enabling people to find their own answers or next steps. It helps people unlock their potential and develop into an independent thinker – ultimately saving us managers time in the future as well as helping them! In this one-day session, you’ll learn how to apply this invaluable technique as a line manager.

What do we mean by coaching?

This term is used in many different contexts. We want to first of all make sure we’re super clear on what we mean by the technique of coaching; what it is, and what it is not. 

Listening and questioning skills 

The two core skills that sit behind the technique of coaching. We’ll explore the application of both through the lens of coaching, with plenty of opportunity to practice. 

Coach! 

For the rest of the day, you will have the opportunity to literally coach your fellow learners. You’ll work with real situations and practice the technique with live feedback from our facilitator. During this practice, you’ll refine your own coaching style.
